The 2013 Australian Marist Schools Conference took place in Cairns in far north Queensland. The Conference theme 'He gave us the name of Mary' took up the topic addressed by the Superior General of the Marist Brothers, Br Emili Turu, in one of his circulars. Br Emili was guest speaker at the Conference.
Scripture scholar Dr Michele Connolly rsj, our second keynote speaker, examined the Magnificat from the Gospel of Luke as an ancient Jewish prayer - the story of a valiant woman who gives birth.
A Conference sub theme on 'Catholic Identity' focused on the increasingly popular Catholic Identity Project being undertaken by many Australian Catholic schools. Dr Paul Sharkey, our third Conference keynote speaker, discussed how we can co-create Catholic identity.
Conference delegates had the opportunity to delve into these and many other topics of interest over the three days. It proved to be a most worthwhile experience.
