Nurturing the Arts

Le Rozey Centre.jpg

The Arts were celebrated at Lavalla Catholic College, Traralgon on 30th October, 2013 with the Blessing and Opening of the new Le Rozey Centre.   Named after the town in southern France where St Marcellin Champagnat was born, the Centre was blessed by Bishop Christopher Prowse, now Archbishop of Canberra Goulburn and opened by Br Michael Green, National Director of Marist Schools Australia.  Michael observed that Le Rozey in France is located in a very open, rural setting reminding us of the openness we can have to the many expressions of the Arts in today's world.  Mr Chris Roga explained to the assembly, which included the Lavalla students, that the new building replaces the former Arts building which was destroyed by fire a few years ago. The original Arts building was, in a former life, a Year 7 Centre which was developed by the then Year 7 Coordinator Mr Michael Hansen.  In 1975, the College was fortunate to receive an innovation grant of $16,000 awarded by the Whitlam Federal Government of the time. Today students can embrace the Arts in this beautiful $M1.2 complex thanks to outstanding work of College Principal, Ms Erica Pegorer and her dedicated team.
