Dr Richard Curtain, a consultant in public policy who has worked in East Timor for eighteen months, spoke to a group of Marists at the Montagne Centre on Sunday 24th July, 2011 about promoting development in East Timor. One statistic that moved Richard's attentive audience was that each year 1500 young people enter the workforce, competing for 400 jobs. Some jobs are filled with foreign workers from Indonesia and China.
